Volunteer at Double Exposure

Volunteers play a vital role in the successful execution of the festival, and there are many enriching positions to be found at Double Exposure. We are seeking energetic, creative self-starters who love journalism and/or film, and whose involvement will continue to help make Double Exposure an important part of the community, and meaningful destination for filmmakers and journalists to attend from near and far.

Successful Qualities:

  • Ability to relate to people in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
  • Reliable and Responsible
  • Must attend pre-festival training
  • All volunteers must be 18 years or older. Volunteers who work at parties or special events where alcohol is served must be 21 or older.

  • Free admission for two to any regular screening (excludes Opening Night) and to screenings for which you volunteer

For pre-festival roles:

  • Thanks by name on pre-screening trailer

POSITIONS

General Festival Volunteers

  • Distribute printed material such as posters, postcards, program brochures to pre-defined locations.
  • Vehicle is an asset.
  • Opportunity starting in September.

Film Screening Volunteers 

  • Must commit for a full screening program.
  • Arrive 1 hour before the beginning of the screening.
  • Meet, greet and usher festival attendees into the auditorium. 
  • Provide information about the venue, theater, and program.
  • Help to organize and direct lines.
  • Provide surveys to attendees before screenings, collect cards afterward.
  • Ensure venue is in order after screening. 

Symposium Volunteers 

  • Must commit for a full day of conference.
  • Arrive 1 hour before the beginning of the conference.
  • Check in registrants, providing badges and conference materials.
  • Provide information about the venue, surroundings, and overall program.
  • Ensure the speaker has the material necessary for his/ her appearance.
  • Help to organize and direct lines.

DX Access and DX Pitch Volunteer (one-on-one meetings) 

  • Assists in facilitating timed one-on-one meetings between filmmakers, journalists, producers, platform representatives, and funders (meetings pre-arranged by the festival).
  •  DX Access/Pitch takes place Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3.

Media Volunteers 

Press Coordinators

  • Identify media members covering the festival and coordinate with media lead to identify needs, provide escorts to interview subjects, and support media members requirements (wifi, power, privacy). 

Photography & Videography (Experience Required)

  • Roving still photographer (with high-res quality phone and/or camera) (both staged and candids)
  • Roving videographer (with 4k 30fps capable phone or camera)
  • Document and photograph festival events (receptions, interview, staged photo-ops, audience, conferences, speakers, filmmakers, Q & A, festival team- step and repeat, behind-the-scenes).
  • Must commit to a full event.
  • Must commit to share these images with the festival team and festival social media vehicles.
  • Must have photographic skills and own equipment.Must commit to share these images with the festival team and festival social media vehicles.

Video Editor (Experience Required)

  • Gather video and still photos and compile/edit a daily 60sec  highlights real during the festival.
  • Must commit to share these images with the festival team and festival social media vehicles.

Festival Podcaster Team 

  • Work with the communications team to develop a festival podcast. Identify interview subjects, schedule interviews, edit audio, and podcast package segments

Film

  • Film post-screening discussions (Q&A, panels, director interviews) for use by DX.
  • Must have filmmaking and editing skills and own equipment.
  • Analyze and advise on lighting conditions.  

Writing 

  • This volunteer opportunity is available NOW and throughout the festival. 
  • It is intended for film and journalism students and bloggers interested in writing about film festivals and investigative journalism for the DX website. 
  • Must commit to submit one post/ article every other week.
