With four Emmys, two Oscar nominations and a “Producer of the Year” award, Michael Cascio has executive experience in successful production and programming. As SVP/EVP at A&E, Animal Planet, MSNBC and National Geographic Channel, he created and supervised many award-winning and popular programs: Brain Games, Dog Whisperer, Biography, American Justice, Doomsday Preppers, and landmark specials Inside 9/11, The ’90s: The Last Great Decade?, Restrepo, The Farm and Titanic: Death of a Dream. His recent documentaries include HBO’s At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal, which received the prestigious TV Academy Honors and was nominated for Best Documentary Emmy, and the Emmy-nominated Going to War for PBS.

VALUES AND ETHICS IN DOCUMENTARY: THE WAY FORWARD

In this open roundtable, American University researchers Patricia Aufderheide and Marissa Woods host an interactive discussion about the challenges and opportunities in creating shared standards for documentary ethics. Participants include members of the Documentary Accountability Working Group, the Undocumented Filmmakers Collective, FWD-DOC, International Documentary Association, Beyond Inclusion, Allied, and representatives from different public broadcasting entities. This roundtable is presented in partnership with the Center for Media & Social Impact.
