Kanika Harris

Director

Kanika Harris, PhD, MPH is the Executive Director of the National Association to Advance Black Birth in Washington, D.C. Her work focuses on birth equity and reproductive health. She is a mother of three, near-miss survivor, and doula.

Dr. Harris received her doctoral degree in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan in 2014. She also received her master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in International Health from Morehouse School of Medicine. Internationally, Dr. Harris has worked extensively in Southern Africa supporting community-based initiatives that focus on the primary prevention of HIV infection for women.

Listen to Me is her first documentary which she is co-directing with her partner Stephanie Etienne, CNM. The film explores the maternal health crisis for women of color in the United States.
