Amira Williams is a filmmaker from Atlanta, GA based in New York City. New to the industry, ‘Birth Bestie’ is her first documentary, a short that gives a glimpse into the life of a doula combatting New York City’s high maternal mortality rates. She has previously worked on My Name is Pauli Murray, a Peadbody-award winning documentary about an unsung Civil Rights and women’s right luminary. When she’s not brainstorming new film ideas, she’s working on improving her roller skating skills, buying more books than she has time to read, and scrolling through twitter. Amira is passionate about social justice issues, especially those pertaining to Black women as well as Black queer and trans people. She hopes to be able to keep supporting and creating films that can speak to how community is paramount to our survival.
