When hundreds and then thousands of masked immigration agents descended on Minneapolis in the winter of 2025, residents put on their boots and picked up their cameras. They’re Here, from Oscar-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras and Rachel Lauren Mueller, is built from footage shot by local activists who tracked those operations across the city. For A Month in Minnesota, director Anne Sundberg took her camera inside, too, capturing a city on edge, whose residents refused to look the other way. In one pointed scene, an ICE agent throws his hand before a camera filming an injured man curled on the ground, seconds after agents hurled tear gas canisters in front of a house. "Do not block my camera!" the young man filming shouts at the agent. "It is our one right, and you know that!"
These films are a reminder of how powerful that right can be.
The program closes with a special screening of FREE JOAN LITTLE, the story of the 1975 case of Joan Little, the first woman in U.S. history to be acquitted for using deadly force to resist sexual assault.
