Khartoum is an electrifying portrait of a city and its people perched on the edge of survival and revolution. Directed by a collective of Sudanese filmmakers—Anas Saeed, Rawia Alhag, Ibrahim “Snoopy” Ahmad, Timeea Mohamed Ahmed—alongside Phil Cox, this documentary chronicles the dreams, resilience, and courage of five ordinary residents as civil war erupts around them.

Filmed through intimate handheld footage and fiercely inventive green screen reenactments, the film follows its subjects—a civil servant, a tea vendor, a resistance committee volunteer, and two youth bottle collectors—who are forced to flee Sudan after the military coup and subsequent war drive them to exile in East Africa. Produced in the midst of chaos, Khartoum transforms itself alongside the lives it documents, creating a gripping mosaic of street revolutions, collective trauma, and moments of raw hope.

As a collaborative act of remembrance and resistance, Khartoum is an urgent viewing for Double Exposure’s New Fault Lines: it bears witness to the fractures of war, displacement, and community, revealing the enduring spirit of a nation striving to redefine itself against the odds.

Screening followed by audience talkback with directors, who will participate virtually.
