Companion to Grant Writing for Filmmakers, this workshop will analyze successful grant proposals to funders that primarily support journalism. These organizations evaluate proposals for support with a journalist’s perspective, but welcome filmmakers to apply, as well. On hand will be decision makers from the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Each has selected a successful grant application and its author, who will part the curtain on what it takes to present a winning proposal and successfully execute the project. What kinds of stories do each of these funders seek to support? What should applicants make sure to address? What should they steer clear of at all costs? You’ll come away with a better understanding of how these organizations evaluate the hundreds of proposals they receive each year, and what it takes to make yours stand out.
