FOR PRINT JOURNALISTS: BEYOND THE PITCH

October 15, 2022
1:45pm
- 3:00pm
The District Architecture Center

So you’ve just seen your groundbreaking investigation in print, and you believe it would make a riveting film. But how do you get there? This session will demystify the process. You’ll learn how to evaluate your story’s cinematic and storytelling potential, and tease out creative points of entry for a visual story. Erica Berenstein, executive producer of news and documentary at Insider.com, will show you how to find and build the characters who can propel your story forward, and gather the string and telling details that can help bind a visual story. From there, Douglas Blush, CEO of MadPix Films (Icarus, The Hunting Ground), will talk about the avenues available to get your pitch in the right hands, ranging from approaching a filmmaker directly, to working through an agent, or pitching a production company. Blush will talk about what he listens for when he says yes to a pitch, and what the filmmaking process looks like when reporters are involved.

Double Exposure offers a variety of festival passes that provide attendees with priority access to a range of events. We also offer a limited number of standalone tickets to individual events, providing a more flexible way to participate.
