Swiss dealer Yves Bouvier spent years building one of the world's great private art collections for Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev. Then Rybolovlev accused him of a betrayal worth a billion dollars, and two enormous egos went to war. Yet the question of who wronged whom is eclipsed by what their feud drags into the light: "Moneyland," the borderless realm where the ultra-wealthy move fortunes in secret, beyond the reach of tax collectors, investigators, and law enforcement. Masterpieces by Klimt, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Chagall, Leonardo da Vinci and countless other artists emerge from mysterious "freeport" vaults, where they are otherwise hidden from view. Those artworks become silent witnesses to a system built for the ultra rich, where the ultimate value is secrecy.
Film screening to be followed by Q&A with the director, Andreas Dalsgaard, moderated by Caitlin Berry of the Johns Hopkins Frary Gallery.
