Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press

Renee Griffin is a staff attorney at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, where she primarily oversees the Legal Hotline and facilitates rapid response to legal issues faced by journalists. She also contributes to the Reporters Committee’s direct litigation, amicus briefing, pre-publication review, and other legal work.

Prior to joining the Reporters Committee, Renee was an associate at Williams & Connolly LLP and clerked for Judge David M. Ebel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Renee earned her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2021. During law school, she served as a notes editor of the Michigan Law Review and worked as a legal extern for the ACLU of Michigan. She also wrote a note, “Searching for Truth in the First Amendment’s True Threat Doctrine,” that was published in the Michigan Law Review in 2022. Renee received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2017. She covered sports for the student newspaper, The Observer, and was a sports reporting intern at newspapers including The Los Angeles Times and Chicago’s Daily Herald.
