J. Motts is a Cleveland-based filmmaker and writer with Rust Belt roots and mission to move people. She holds a master’s degree in French from Miami University of Ohio, where she developed her interest in understanding storytelling through rhythms. As a result of her studies, her research and creative practice listens for rhythms, particularly as they relate to affect, trauma, and senses of place. Motts began her film producing career in Brooklyn as a Line Producer on THIS TEACHER, winner of the 2018 LA Film Festival US Fiction Jury Prize, and she has since contributed to documentary film projects supported by the Sundance Institute, Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting, Ford Foundation and others.
