Eric Matthies is a filmmaker known for broadcast, cinema and multi-media projects. He has produced globally recognized documentary films that have garnered a PGA Award, a Grammy nomination, a NAACP Image Award nomination, a LAFF Audience Choice Award, a Saturn Award, and a Social Justice Fund nomination. Festivals and venues that have shown work that Matthies has produced or directed include The Venice Biennale, Double Exposure, Sundance, SXSW, LAFF, The Whitney Museum, AFI & TriBeCa.

His filmography includes the documentaries End of TruthKilling the Messenger: The Deadly Cost of NewsBeats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called QuestAyamyeAgile, Mobile, Hostile: A Year with Andre Williams. He worked commercially throughout the ’90s and early ’00s for clients including Warner Bros., Sony, Boeing, Zeiss, Netflix, USC and Nike. In the late ’80s and early ’90s he shot or directed music videos including work for Nine Inch Nails, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Ministry, Soundgarden and Suicidal Tendencies. He went on to produce for Spike Jones, Wyatt Troll, Mike Mills, Roman Coppola and Doug Aitken. He was photo editor at large for Grand Royal Magazine and a contributor to Dirt/ESPN, Thrasher, Big Brother and Super X Media.

Recently, he produced large-scale events, installations and visualizations with the world building consultancy Experimental Design, for clients including The Cook Inlet Tribal Council, University of Alaska and Ford. In 2021 he produced the Glen E. Friedman directed short documentary A Look Back, Dog Town & Z-Boys. He has several projects in production or development.
