Jennilie Brewster is an artist who works in various forms and in the community. Her collaborative installations have been shown in museums and galleries around the country. Her writing on race, class, landscape, and trauma have appeared in Catapult, The Rumpus, and Armchair/Shotgun. She produced 64 for the Spring Artist Lodge at HERE Arts Center (2012) and FADE at the Main Street Theatre (2019), in New York City. She is co-director and founder of OPEN DOORS, an arts and justice initiative that supports the creativity and leadership of Black and Brown people who use wheelchairs and inspires action for safer, more just communities. The New York State Assembly honored Jennilie as a “Woman of Distinction” in 2019 for her work with OPEN DOORS and its impact on the Roosevelt Island community. She has received fellowships from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the UCROSS Foundation, and the Headlands Center for the Arts, among others. Jennilie lives on Roosevelt Island in New York City.
