Dr. Mark Lee Hunter

Co-Founder

Mark Lee Hunter is a recognized authority and innovator for watchdog media. He is the lead author of Story-Based Inquiry: A Manual for Investigative Journalists (UNESCO 2009-11) and Power is Everywhere: How stakeholder-driven media build the future of watchdog news (Stakeholder Media Project, 2017). He co-founded the Future Media Management Programme at Stockholm School of Economics Riga and is a founding member of the Stakeholder Media Project, Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism, and the Global Investigative Journalism Network. 

His peer-reviewed articles on investigative journalism and stakeholder-driven media appeared in The California Management Review, Corporate Reputation Review, Journal of Business Ethics, and many others.His pamphlets The Hidden Scenario and The Story Tells the Facts, co-authored with Luuk Sengers, focus on conceiving, structuring, and composing fact-based narratives. He is also the author of over 100 investigative feature articles. His other recent projects include an eight-country investigation of the Common Agricultural Policy in partnership with Greenpeace.

He has won two Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards, along with the Sigma Delta Chi Award for research on journalism, the H.L. Mencken Free Press Award, first-place National Headliners, and Clarion Awards for feature writing, and two EFMD Awards for case writing on business issues. His documentary on France’s alcohol lobby, Liquorgate (Arte), was selected for the FIPA international festival. 

He earned his B.A. at Harvard and his doctorate at the Université de Paris II, where his thesis on investigative journalism methods was published by Presses Universitaires de France. When not working, he plays slide guitar in the GIJN house band, The Muckrakers, and the minimalist trio Hunter and The Fantastic Hands.

Dr. Hunter will be facilitating the Story-Based Inquiry I and Story-Based Inquiry II workshops. He will also be taking meetings for DX Access.
