Edgar Barens (Director, The Hive) is a documentary filmmaker with a notable record of successful production in very stressful prison environments. Following the release of his Oscar-nominated documentary Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall, Barens began focusing on the men on death row and the families destroyed on both sides of their crimes. The project which emerged, The Hive, exposes the painful parallels these families are forced to endure as their violent past collides with the looming execution in their future. His films have been widely screened at film festivals and have garnered numerous awards, both nationally and internationally. Additionally, Barens has personally presented his work at hundreds of prisons throughout the United States and participated in significant criminal justice symposia and conferences globally. His most recent film, Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall, was also nominated for Best Short Subject Documentary by the International Documentary Association and broadcast for nearly two years on HBO.
