David Leloup is an award-winning freelance journalist and director who has worked for various TV and print media in Belgium (Le Soir, RTBF, Le Vif/LʼExpress…), France (Le Monde, Rue89, Le Canard Enchaîné…), Switzerland (Le Temps) and India (HeadlinesToday). A Leak in Paradise (2016), about Swiss whistleblower and former banker Rudolf Elmer, is his first feature-length documentary film. After a Master in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Liege and a few years as a researcher at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve, David began his journalism career in 1999 working for the TV science magazine Matière Grise with the Belgian public channel RTBF. In 2005 his report ‘Petits arrangements avec le climat’ (on geoengineering and other false technological solutions to global warming) received the Special Jury Prize at the International Film Festival for the Environment in Kairouan, Tunisia. David then joined the editorial staff of the Belgian bimonthly Imagine where he focused on environmental, cultural and economic journalism. In 2007, he joined the team of Corporate Europe Observatory in Brussels as a part-time researcher to investigate the lobbying of big corporations at EU level. He then joined in 2013 the Belgian edition of the weekly newsmagazine Marianne where he published groundbreaking stories based on the Panamanian registry of companies scraped by a hacker. In 2011 and 2016 David received the Dexia Prize for Journalism for investigative stories on pharmaceutical companies. He is also a co-founder of the new Belgian investigative quarterly Médor, launched in December 2015.
